Transparent background maker

Turn any photo into a PNG with a see-through background, ready for slides, stickers, thumbnails and designs. Soft edges are kept as real partial transparency, not a jagged outline.

Why some "transparent" PNGs look bad

A quick cut-out decides for each pixel: keep or delete. That works for a box but fails on hair, fur, glass and motion blur, where a single pixel is partly subject and partly background. Try it below: the hard cut leaves stair-steps or halos; soft alpha keeps the strand; decontamination removes the leftover background colour from the edge.

Stair-stepped strands. Every pixel is either all hair or all sky, which real hair never is.

BGVault's models output soft alpha (a value from 0 to 255 per pixel), and the Soften edge and Tighten / expand sliders let you shift that edge if a light fringe shows on a dark design.

Where to use your transparent PNG

  • Presentations and documents: drop a person or product onto a coloured slide without a white box around it.
  • Stickers and print on demand: most sticker and T-shirt services ask for a 300 DPI PNG with a transparent background. Export at the original size.
  • YouTube thumbnails and social graphics: layer your cut-out over text and colour in Canva, Figma or Photoshop.

Questions people ask

What makes a PNG "transparent"?

A PNG can store a fourth channel, alpha, next to red, green and blue. Alpha says how opaque each pixel is from 0 to 255. Pixels with alpha 0 are invisible, so whatever sits behind the image shows through. JPG has no alpha channel, which is why a "transparent JPG" is impossible.

Why is there a checkerboard behind my image?

The grey-and-white checkerboard is the convention for "nothing here". It is not part of your file. When you place the PNG on a slide, website or another photo, only the subject appears.

PNG or WebP?

Both keep full transparency. WebP files are usually far smaller, which makes them better for websites. PNG is the safer choice for print, Office documents, Canva and older software.

Can I make a logo transparent here?

For photos of people, pets and products use this page. For flat logos, stamps and signatures on white paper the logo & signature cleaner is more precise, because it removes an exact colour rather than guessing the subject.
