Remove white background from logos & signatures

For flat graphics the right tool isn't AI, it's colour keying. Drop a logo, stamp or signature on white paper and get a crisp transparent PNG with no white fringe.

  • Exact colour key
  • De-fringed edges
  • Ink recolour

How tolerance and softness decide what disappears

Every pixel is measured by how far its colour is from the key colour, weighting green most because our eyes are most sensitive to it (the same weighting as the Rec. 601 luma formula). Pixels closer than the tolerance become fully transparent. Between tolerance and tolerance + softness they fade gradually, which keeps anti-aliased edges smooth.

Sixteen greys from paper white to ink. Each one's distance from the key colour (white) decides how transparent it becomes.

Paper-white goes fully clear, the anti-aliased edge fades out gradually, solid ink stays opaque.

De-fringing fixes the grey halo you often see on logos pasted onto dark backgrounds: a half-transparent edge pixel still contains half of the old white, so the tool subtracts that share of the key colour and keeps only the ink.

Getting a clean signature

  • Sign with a dark pen on plain white printer paper.
  • Photograph in daylight with no shadow from your phone; fill the frame with the signature.
  • Recolour to pure black or a dark blue so the paper tint doesn't show on the edges.

For photos of people or products, use the AI background remover instead.

Questions people ask

How do I remove the white background from a logo?

Drop the logo file. The tool reads the corner colour (usually white), makes every pixel close to it transparent, and removes the white fringe from anti-aliased edges. Adjust Tolerance until the background is gone and the logo colours are untouched, then download a PNG.

Why not just use the AI remover for logos?

AI segmentation looks for a "subject", which works for photos but can drop thin lines, small text or the inside of letters in a logo. Colour keying is exact: it removes one colour and nothing else, so crisp graphics stay crisp.

How do I make a signature transparent?

Photograph or scan the signature on plain white paper in good light, drop it here, raise Tolerance until the paper grain disappears, and optionally set Recolour ink to a clean blue or black. Download the PNG and place it into your document or PDF editor.

The white inside my letters disappeared. What now?

Tick "Only remove background touching the border". The tool then only clears white areas connected to the edge of the image, keeping enclosed white shapes such as the centre of an O.

Can I remove a colour other than white?

Yes. Click Pick from image and click the background colour, for example a green screen or a coloured paper. Any flat background colour works.
